10-19-05 Update on BCH Recording Project

Since my last update regarding the recording of "Her Song" for the Friends of BCH cd project on 03-09-05, I have gone into the studio yet one more time, and have seen the project completed...

Sometime between March 9th and May 10th, project manager and producer Scott Trifeletti listened to my vocal tracks from the prior sessions, perhaps in the studio of co-producer and mastering engineer Ed McKenna, and decided that yet more work was required on my vocal tracks. This news depressed me -- after three studio sessions I had expected to be done -- but I pulled myself together and scheduled a fourth session at Trif's home studio.

That fourth session took place on Tuesday May 10th. At that session I gave it my best, and may have turned in my best vocal performance of the four sessions, but still did not deliver the exact performance Trif and I had wanted. Mindful of the need to get the overall project completed, Trif decided that my best of that day was good enough, and I agreed. I was both appreciative, and embarrassed, to have chewed up four days of Scott's time for one short song, and I did not want to impose on Scott's goodwill, or the overall project, any further.

Many weeks passed, and then, just before the Jersey Jam for MS, word came that the cd project had been completed, thanks to Scott and Ed and the folks at Discmakers in Pennsauken NJ. I was nervous about hearing the finished product, especially since I had not heard my track after the mixing and mastering process. I wondered whether or not Scott and Ed had picked the best vocal tracks, and what kind of effects they had applied to the guitar component and to the vocal component.

I received my batch of fifty (50) cd's on September 17th, after the Jersey Jam. On hearing the cd I cried... tears of pride and joy. Yes, there were things I would have changed, on my track and on other tracks, however the overall quality of the cd -- as regards songwriting, singing, playing, and production -- was better than my expectations. I am proud and happy to be on such a fine cd, and have not felt guilty charging $10 a copy to buyers. If you have not purchased a copy but would like to do so, drop me a line through the Contact page of my site.
